Wolf Marshall is a unique hybrid. He is internationally acclaimed
as both a guitarist and a celebrity educator. Through his many products,
Wolf has gained an enormous worldwide following and status usually
accorded only to "famed players" in "name bands,"
and has been listened to on his releases by more aspiring fretboard
enthusiasts than most so-called guitar heroes.
Wolf has been rightfully
nicknamed the "Rich Little of Guitar." He is the leading
impressionist in the industry; emulating, on record, the styles
of the greats with unerring accuracy. And not only does he perform
the most challenging licks and tricks of players like Stevie Ray
Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen,
Eric Clapton, and countless others on his best-selling book/CD packages,
but he explains and demonstrates their special techniques and approaches
to legions of guitar students and fans globally.
Wolf set the standards for modern guitar education in the eighties.
Then, his innovative transcription books, audio "licks"
releases (on Star Licks, Music Sales, Cherry Lane and Hal Leonard
labels), and videos created the basis for an industry which continues
to boom today and shows no signs of abating. He is also a highly
respected music author, contributing long-running articles and columns
to Guitar World, Guitar for the Practicing Musician
(currently re-named Guitar), and Guitar School since
1984.
Wolf Marshalls GuitarOne is another milestone.
Created by Wolf in 1994 and first published in 1995, it is truly
a first. Never before in history had a major music magazine borne
the name and likeness of an individual or embodied ones personal
artistic philosophies and approach to the instrument in its pages.
Nor has one since. Currently a bi-monthly publication simply called
GuitarOne, the magazine remains an obvious testimonial to
Wolf's notoriety and influence.
Wolfs personal approach to the instrument is fully exploited
and shared with the world in the Wolf Marshall Guitar Method
and Power Studies. This is a comprehensive eight-volume book/audio
series (Hal Leonard Publishing) which is considered by his peers
and those who follow his teachings to be the absolute state-of-the-art
in contemporary guitar music education.
Though the demands of his schedule are generally grueling (he recorded
the equivalent of three full-length albums, completed a momentous
fifty-city international clinic/promotional tour, wrote three books,
and produced numerous articles and columns in 1993 alone), Wolf
found time to release an original track in early 1994 for Guitar
Records Guitars Practicing Musicians, Volume III.
His composition, "Rainbow Roll (Extra Spicy)" appeared
alongside cuts by Dream Theater, Zakk Wylde, George Lynch, Jack
Bruce, Shawn Lane and John Christ, and was a standout favorite and
the subject of a slew of radio shows throughout the U.S. that same
year.
In the past, Wolf has worked closely with a number of manufacturers,
and featured their instruments and products prominently on his releases.
He has endorsed, and been endorsed by, prestigious companies such
as Fender Musical Instruments, Jim Dunlop Manufacturing, Vox (Korg,
USA) and Samick, as well as Martin Guitars, Gibson USA, Dobro, National
Reso-Phonic Guitars, Takamine, Kahler, Gemini, Digitech, and others.
